Welcome to Palm Beach National Civic Association!
We are a Civic Association so membership is a choice not an obligation; however you would never view it as the latter. We are lucky to have a friendly, conscientious and low crime incident neighborhood. The purpose of a Civic Association is to be social and bring the neighborhood together and make it a cohesive community.
It is important for our membership to be at least 51% each year (average is typically just below) in order to have a recognized voice with the county in the event there are planned changes that we see could affect our neighborhood in a positive or negative way.
Here’s what your membership will include:
social events for kids and adults, scholarships for graduating teens, newsletters, weekly e-mail updates, website, Facebook group,
and annual yard sale. We are always looking to add more and really appreciate ideas from the Members. Whether you are a long-term resident or a newer resident it’s a great way to meet or re-acquaint yourself with your neighbors. There have been approximately 100 homes sold in the last 3 years.
The PBNCA annual meeting was held on January 23rd. The meeting was well attended representing about 30% of the membership. A 2019 Year in Review Report was given by various members of the Executive Board. There was also discussion of plans for 2020 both administratively and for events in the works.
A Proposed Budget was reviewed with the Members. Due to rising costs and the need to purchase additional items, for example signage, the opinions of the Members was sought how to accomplish this task. Ideas of fund raisers and an increase in dues were discussed. The Members unanimously supported an increase in the dues based on the proposed budget. Based on this recommendation, the Board of Directors/Area Reps passed a budget at the first meeting of the year on February 11th to increase the annual dues to $40.00 (a $10.00 increase). This increase will help substantially but needs to be in conjunction with meeting our minimum annual goal of 51% membership.
Another important point of discussion at the annual meeting was regarding required membership in order to attend PBNCA events. It has not been a requirement with the exception of the Neighborhood BBQ. The Members were again unanimous in their opinions that it is time for this requirement and is certainly not an unreasonable expectation. Based on the Members recommendations the Board of Directors/Area Reps also passed the requirement at the February 11th meeting.
